Operation Christmas Child at St Mary’s – Facebook Live Video

If you would like to see how to put a Santa Shoebox together and what to include, then please have a look at this live video that Russell and Linda did on our Facebook page this week. We are taking part in Samaritan's Purse's Operation Christmas Child again this year. Last year we collected 617 boxes and we would love to be able to do the same again this year. For more information on when to bring your box to Church and how to put your box together, please have a look at our website: http://www.stmarysewell.com/events/praise11-operation-shoebox/ Gepostet von St Mary's, Ewell am Montag, 29. Our Patronal Festival and Exciting Building Announcements

Our patronal festival is always a great celebration as we call to mind the Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom our church is dedicated. Our guest preacher, Canon Paul Thompson, gave us a challenging and thought-provoking sermon, and it was good to build on our links with his own institution of Epsom College, where he is Senior Chaplain and our own Director of Music, Jonathan Holmes, is organist. At the Sung Eucharist, the choir sang Rachmaninov’s Ave Maria from books donated in memory of the late Reg Saunders, former reader of this parish. Festal refreshments were enjoyed afterwards! Over the refreshments the Vicar updated the congregation on some of the building…

    Parish Choir at Chichester Cathedral

On Sunday 2 September, our parish choir sang all three services of Mattins, Sung Eucharist, and Evensong at Chichester Cathedral, covering for the cathedral choir who were on holiday. The arduous programme for the day meant that the choir drove down on Saturday afternoon, ready for an early start to rehearsals. The choir adapted masterfully to the cathedral’s wonderful acoustic, and I lost count of the number of Chichester ‘regulars’ who asked me to pass on their appreciation of the quality of the music. Special thanks must go to David Crick, choir administrator, for organizing the trip, to Jonathan Holmes, our Director of Music, for conducting, to Simon Gregory for…

    HOPE 2018

HOPE is the annual free, family event put on by Churches Together in Ewell in the grounds of Bourne Hall. This year, St Mary’s again contributed a stall with garden games: giant Jenga, giant Connect 4, and Mölkky. Things started slowly as 24 June was the date of an England World Cup game. Once the football had finished however, lots and lots of people started to arrive. All of our games were in constant use, with queues… we’ll have to bring more next year!

Our Parish Choir at Portsmouth Cathedral

St Mary’s parish choir sang Evensong at Portsmouth Cathedral on Saturday 14 April. Eighteen members of the choir turned out to sing in the wonderful setting (and acoustic) at Portsmouth. The choir’s next away engagement is on Sunday 2 September, when they will be singing Choral Mattins, Sung Eucharist, and Choral Evensong at Chichester Cathedral. Supporters from Ewell are very much encouraged to come along and make a day of it in Chichester!
