« Back to Guides and Brownies

Our Brownie Pack was started in 1926 and, as far as we know, has been in existence continually since then. At the moment we have a very active Pack with three Guiders (Brown Owl, Snowy Owl and Barn Owl), three Young Leaders (Badger, Hedgehog and Squirrel) who are all training to be adult leaders and two Pack Leaders (Mole and Rabbit). We usually have 24 Brownies and a waiting list so the sooner a name is down.!

Every Brownie makes her Promise after she has been attending meetings for a few weeks

The Brownie Promise
I promise that I will do my best
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country
To help other people
And to keep the Brownie Guide Law

The Brownie Guide Law
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself
And does a good turn every day.

This is our Brownie Badge. Brownies logo

Brownies can wear this once they have made their Promise.

The Unit is divided into four sixes:

At our meetings we have fun playing games, making things and working for badges. At the moment everyone is working for one of these badges:

In the Autumn term, we run a craft stall at St Mary's Christmas Fair. We make lots of things for it in our meetings. Our favourite is marzipan fruits.

In the summer the Brownies and Guides can be seen at the Church Fair. We run lots of children’s games and a face painting stall.

For many Brownies the highlights of the year are our two Pack Holidays. We go away for a weekend in the Spring and a longer 5 night holiday during the summer break.

Pack holiday

On Pack Holidays we stay in a special Brownie House or camp out in a church or village hall. The Brownies help to cook the meals, wash up and keep the holiday home tidy.

We also have lots of fun out of doors (weather permitting!)

On our holidays we always have a theme. Our last two were "Down on the Farm" and "The Borrowers". We use names relating to the theme for our sixes and Leaders and do lots of crafts, which tie in to the theme.

Sometimes we do badges on Pack Holiday. We can work for:

Celebrations

Next year is a very exciting one for our Unit. We will be celebrating our 80th birthday!!!
As part of this we would like to find out as much as we can about our Brownie Pack.

We know that we used to be called 1st A Ewell Brownies and we have a cloth signed by everyone who has been enrolled in the Unit since 1977.

When we were 75 we held a party for past Brownies and Leaders. We managed to track down lots of people but this time we want to do even better. We are hoping to trace as many people as possible who have been involved with our Brownies in the last 80 years.

If you can give us any information please e-mail Brown Owl.
