Junior Singing Group
A NEW MUSICAL OPPORTUNITY FOR CHILDREN
A pilot was started at the beginning of the Summer Term 2010 for a Junior Singing Group for children aged from 6 to 11, meeting on Fridays 5pm-6pm. The group, which is open to all, was formally launched at the start of that October, and is building on the singing sessions held to date and on the annual schools concert.
There are many different styles of music to enjoy as well as singing tuition, ear training, sight-singing, musical theory and rudiments all delivered by an expert in the field, Paul Taylor. He was at one time Head of Music at Ewell Castle Junior School and latterly Head of Music at a thriving music department at Cleves School in Weybridge. Paul and all our Music Staff are CRB cleared and the church has a comprehensive Child Protection Policy.
The training uses the Royal School of Church Music ?Voice for Life? syllabus; a nationally recognised course renowned for its excellence and thoroughness. Help will also be given to children preparing for ABRSM and other graded exams.
One of our expert teachers is a trained music examiner. Help will be given with accompaniments, aural tests and sight-reading as well as with performance opportunities, which are many and varied at St Mary?s.
There will be concerts and opportunities to sing or play in them.
The group will run through term time, with a break for half term, and meets in the Parish Room at St Mary?s Church, London Road, in Ewell. Please do feel free to be in touch with any questions on the eMail address below.
