Guyana

For many years St Mary's has enjoyed a fruitful link with parishes in the Berbice area of Guyana.

Father Leslie Edmondson is the new parish priest, in charge of several churches in the upper Corentyne region of the Berbice area. He manages the parishes of St. Margaret's with St. Agnes; St.Mary's, Leeds and Holy Epiphany, Orealla. He and his wife Lena have recently transferred from a parish in Georgetown. They have been in e-mail contact and sent some photographs of an Ash Wednesday Children's service.

Our Mission Link re-launch Caribbean Lunch at The Clink restaurant HMP High Down in February 2011, with the sale of 'alternative gift cards' raised a magnificent £729 which has recently been sent via the Guyana Diocesan Association (GDA). The Church Warden of St.Mary's, Leeds has requested financial assistance with their next project - the repainting of the church - our donations will certainly help with the maintenance of that church, so a big thank you for your very generous donations.

To continue with the fund raising for our mission link with Guyana, a new selection of 'Alternative Gift Cards', will be on sale after the church services on Sunday 15th & 21st April, so do consider giving them for those special 'big' birthdays and anniversaries. Your continued support will directly assist the people of the Corentyne. A signed gift-aid form will boost donations by 25% if you're a tax payer.

A date for your diary: On Sunday 1st July 2012, we have invited the Bishop of Guyana, The Right Reverend Cornell Jerome Moss, to officiate and preach at a special 10.00am service and to talk about Guyana over coffee
