Giving to St Mary’s

St Mary’s Church relies entirely on donations and giving from church members to support our work and for the upkeep of our buildings and grounds. We are most grateful to everyone who supports St Mary’s through financial gifts, and also to those who support with their time and talents.

Making a donation

We are always very grateful to those who wish to make donations to St Mary’s.

You can make a donation by text. Text EWELL 5 to 70085 to donate £5. Texts cost your donation plus one standard message rate. Change the 5 to the amount you’d like to give, up to EWELL 20 to give £20.

There are also collections in church at most services. For taxpayers, ‘Gift Aid’ envelopes are available in church– if you fill this in, we can reclaim tax on your donation.

Regular Giving

Regular giving to the church is an important part of Christian discipleship. Over eighty individuals and families give in a regular and planned way, and we hope that newer members of St Mary’s will consider joining us.

Parish Giving SchemeThere are various different methods of regular giving which are used by people in our church. The Parish Giving Scheme is a new scheme that an increasing number of people are now using to give to St Mary’s. It’s easy to set up and works through your bank account (like other Direct Debits and standing orders) and it also offers various advantages to St Mary’s in minimizing administration. We can send you a pack with full information and a form, or please do be in touch with us to find out more. Other people prefer to give through weekly or monthly coloured envelopes– again we can let you have a supply if this is what you prefer. Our stewardship recorder, Sarah Holmes or Finance Team, Donna & David Boosey would be very happy to answer any questions you may have.

Because God loves us He has blessed us with many possessions, such as time, talent, and treasure. The way we use our possessions demonstrates our love to Him.

Proverbs 3:9-10

As is the usual tradition in the Church of England, the information about the amounts given by regular donors is kept strictly confidential to the stewardship recorder and treasurer. The Vicar is given a list of regular donors by the finance team for the purpose of writing thank you letters, but does not know the level of anyone’s giving.

There is, of course, never any obligation to continue any level of regular giving when personal circumstances change.

Particular Gifts to St Mary’s

Often people like to make a particular gift to St Mary’s in memory of a loved one, or to commemorate a special event. Recent gifts to St Mary’s have been made for particular purposes including the refurbishment of the parish room, and replacement carpets for the altar area.

Leaving a Legacy to St Mary’s

We are sometimes asked for information from those thinking of leaving money to St Mary’s in their will. In response to these requests, we have written a guide to mentioning St Mary’s in your will, which is available in church or can be downloaded below.
