Guyana Mission Link

For many years, St Mary’s has had a link with parishes in Guyana.

Our link parishes

Father Leslie Edmondson is the new parish priest, in charge of several churches in the upper Corentyne region of the Berbice area. He manages the parishes of St. Margaret’s with St. Agnes; St.Mary’s, Leeds and Holy Epiphany, Orealla. He and his wife Lena have recently transferred from a parish in Georgetown. They are in e-mail contact with us and regularly send updates and photographs.

We support our link parishes through events (such as the recent Caribbean Lunch at The Clink restaurant HMP High Down) and with the sale of ‘alternative gift cards’ available in the church, through which such gifts as garden tools, children’s school stationery, a bicycle for a midwife etc can be bought as gifts for the parishes.

The Bishop of Guyana

The previous and current Bishops of Guyana have both visited St Mary’s. The most recent visit was in July 2012 when the Bishop celebrated and preached at St Mary’s, answered queries in a Q&A session, and joined us for lunch. Read more about the Bishop’s visit.
